Recipient of the Queens Award for Voluntary Service, Hopes and Beams is a multi-award-winning charity based in Crewe (previously known as 'The Cheshire Academy of Integrated Sports and Arts'). We provide sporting and social opportunities for children and young adults with physical, sensory or learning disabilities to discover their potential through sports, teaching and recreation. Our ethos is to look at a person’s ability rather than their disability. SPORTS TRAINING We have earned an international reputation as a leading provider of sports training for people with disabilities. Our specialist teaching has meant many of our athletes have achieved major titles regionally, nationally and internationally at a myriad of esteemed competitions such as the World Special Olympic Games. CHILD DEVELOPMENT If your child’s learning, behaviour or needs mean they’re not getting the most from their education, our classes could help. We teach social, behavioural and educational skills to children in very small groups or on a 1:1 basis, run by a fully qualified teacher with over 25 years of specialised experience. SUPPORT NETWORK We understand that families with children or young people who have disabilities or additional needs are often under a great amount of stress and feel isolated. Because of this we give specialist support to families / carers of disabled people. We use our expertise to help families understand more about their child’s needs and to help them look beyond what they can do to see their real potential for progress. Hopes and Beams also assists families by helping them meet with other parents and carers. Our staff and volunteers have great expertise and experience in working with children, young adults and elderly people with a wide variety of needs. We are happy to discuss a person’s needs so that they can be provided with the best support necessary when using our services. COMMUNITY INITIATIVE We have expanded our work with older people by providing a range of specialist activities, including those that are Alzheimer’s and dementia friendly, as part of our combating loneliness in the community initiative known as ‘Golden Memories’. We also run a very well-established community restaurant called Poppy's Restaurant & Café which serves home cooked meals especially geared for older people. Charity No. 1084146.
